Uttarakhand: 10 mountaineering trainees killed in avalanche

10 trainees of Nehru Mountaineering Institute have been killed after after an avalanche hit the Danda-2 mountain peak located in Gangotri range of Garhwal region in Uttarakhand. 

29 trainees of the institute were trapped in the avalanche out of which 8 were rescued, according to officials. 

According to an India Today report, they were part of a trekking group from the institute that consisted of 33 trainees and 7 instructors. 

A joint relief and rescue operation is being carried out by NDRF, SDRF, ITBP and Army.

Draupadi Ka Danda peak is located at a height of 5,006 metres.
