Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who was part of the selection panel, announced the names of the two new election commissioners on Thursday.

Chowdhury said that Gyanesh Kumar from Kerala and Sukhbir Sandhu from Punjab have been chosen as the new election comissioners ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

The Congress leader, who was part of the committee along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, objected to the selection process.

'Earlier, they had given me 212 names, but 10 minutes before the appointment they again gave me just six names. I am not saying that it's arbitrary but the procedure that is being followed has some lacunae,' he said.
