Russia War: 20 days after his death, body of student killed in Ukraine reaches Bengaluru

The mortal remains of an Indian student from Karnataka, who was killed in Russian shelling in war-torn Ukraine, reached Bengaluru on Monday.

Naveen Shekarappa Gyanagaudar, a final year medical student at Kharkiv National Medical University, died on March 1 while he was standing in a queue to buy food and other supplies. 

Naveen's family members, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai were present at the airport to receive the body.

The Karnataka Chief Minister handed over a cheque of ₹25 lakh to the family of Naveen and promised a job for a family member.

The body was then taken to his native place, Chalageri village of Ranebennur taluk in Haveri district.

Naveen's parents have decided to donate the body to a private hospital in Davangere' after paying their last respects.
