Amid the rise in cases of mucormycosis or ''black fungus'' infection among Covid-19 survivors, the Gujarat government has started setting up separate wards in hospitals for such patients.
Dr JV Modi, Medical Superintendent at the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad said, 296 patients with mucormycosis have been admitted there and a separate ward has been opened. He added that the state govt is providing hospitals with medicines like amphotericin & oral anti-fungal drugs for its treatment daily as per need.
Mucormycosis, or "black fungus" is a serious but rare fungal infection which has left many Covid patients blind and is also causing other serious issues.
