BJP's Gujarat Legislative Party is holding a meeting to elect a new chief minister after Vijay Rupani resigned from the post on Saturday. The meeting is being headed by union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Prahlad Joshi, who have been appointed as the party's central observers.
There is talk that Praful Khoda Patel, administrator of the union territories of Lakshadweep and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, is among the top contenders.
Also reportedly being considered are Parshottam Rupala, the Union Minister of Fisheries and Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister. The name of Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel is also doing the rounds

Rupani's resignation came 15 months before the election to the 182-member Assembly that is due in December 2022.
