The government of India has asked Covid vaccine manufacturers, the Serum Institute of India, and Bharat Biotech to lower price of vaccines, PTI reported citing official sources. The move comes amid massive criticism from various state govts who objected to profiteering during such a major crisis. The two companies are now expected to come up with revised pricing for their vaccines. Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech has fixed the price of its Covid-19 vaccine, Covaxin, at ₹600 per dose for state governments and at ₹1,200 per dose for private hospitals. The Serum Institute of India (SII), announced a price of ₹400 per dose for Covishield for state governments and ₹600 per dose for private hospitals. Both vaccines are available to the central government at a rate of ₹150 per dose.
