The government issued a notice to Twitter on Saturday, giving it final chance to appoint India-based officers following the country's new digital media rules.

Government has said if Twitter fails to comply ‘the exemption from liability available under section 79 of the IT Act, 2000 shall stand withdrawn' and it  will be 'liable for consequences’

The notice comes on the same day when Twitter briefly removed the verified blue tick from Vice President Venkaiah Naidu’s personal handle citing inactivity.

This signals further deterioration of ties between PM Modi's administration and Twitter
