The government on Thursday announced new rules to regulate digital content, social media, and streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.

The streaming services will have to give a detailed classification of content on the basis of age, sex, violence and nudity.

The platforms will also need to have a provision for parental lock. New rules force streaming services like Netflix and Prime Video, who objected to an independent appellate body for hearing streaming complaints, to submit to the authority of an appeals body headed by a retired high court or Supreme Court justice.
