The golden boy of Indian athletics Neeraj Chopra feels it was his destiny to win an Olympic gold medal. 

"When started learning javelin throw it was never a part of the plan to represent India and win an Olympic gold. It feels like it was a part of God's plan. It was destiny, I just worked hard," Chopra said after winning India's first Olympic medal in athletics.

"When I picked up the javelin for the first time I didn't know I would achieve all this but I felt an immediate attachment to the sport and decided that I wanted to do this professionally," he added. 

Speaking about the moment he won the gold, Neeraj said he did not relax till he knew he had won the medal'

"I wanted to give my best at the Olympics but I didn't relax till I was sure about the gold medal. Other participants were very good and could have done better than me in any attempt. As soon as I saw their last attempt, I knew I'm getting gold & I celebrated."
