Namibia secured its spot in the Super 12 stage from Round 1 in the ICC World T20, after beating Ireland in Sharjah by 8 wickets on Friday. Ireland won the toss and decided to bat first. Paul Stirling and Kevin O Brien's 38 off 24 and 25 off 24 respectively gave a flying start to the team. However, their dismissal in quick successions hurt the team badly. Namibia's Jan Frylinck and David Wiese together took 5 wickets as Ireland could only manage to put a score of 125 on board.

Chasing the low score, the African nation started off slowly to only thrash the Irish bowlers in the end. Collective efforts by skipper Gerhard Erasmus, David Wiese, and Zane Green helped Namibia reach the finish line within 19 overs. While with an unbeaten 53 off 49, Erasmus scored the highest for the debutant nation, Wiese who starred with the ball in the first innings scored a quick unbeaten 28 in 14 balls to register a historic win at the ICC World stage.

Namibia has now joined Sri Lanka in the Super 12s from group A.
