Former Manipur Congress chief Govindas Konthoujam joins BJP

Just months before the Manipur Assembly elections, former Manipur Congress chief Govindas Konthoujam joined the BJP.

Konthoujam was formally inducted into the BJP by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh at the party's headquarters in Delhi on Sunday. 

The BJP has said Konthoujam's induction would be a shot in the arm for the party ahead of polls.

Adressing the press, Manipur CM N Biren Singh said that ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come into power at the Centre, Manipur has been peaceful and doing well.

On July 28, the Congress MLA of 26-Bishnupur Assembly Constituency resigned from the state Assembly citing “personal reasons”. Following this, he also resigned from the primary membership of Congress.
