The Uttarakhand High Court on Friday slammed the state government for not ensuring Covid protocols during Kumbh Mela and Char Dham Yatra amid a devastating Covid wave.
Hearing a batch of PILs related to the state's handling of the pandemic, the bench lambasted the government for giving permission first to Kumbh Mela, and then to Char Dham, and asked it to "go and see what is happening".
The court also noted that the government was ‘playing with the lives of millions of people in the country’.
‘Why do we keep causing embarrassment to ourselves?’ the court asked as it took note of the crowd control measures in place at Char Dham shrines.
