Fake vaccine watch: Centre issues guidelines on how to find out if your covid-19 vaccine is fake

Fake vaccine concerns being put to bed as the Centre has shared a list of parameters based on their label, colour and other details to identify the authenticity of the Covid vaccines being used in the country. Reports indicate that the Modi Govt has shared various indicators with states to weed out any presence of spurious vaccine vials after WHO raised an alert for India and Africa.“It was requested that the vaccines need to be carefully authenticated before use,” the health ministry said in a letter to states. 

Here is how you can check if your vaccine vial is authentic -:

Covishield, things to check-:

  • Genuine bottle will have a label shade of dark green 
  • Trademark also mentioned on the original vaccine
  • Dark green aluminium flip-off seal
  • Font of the generic name is un-bold, (Recombinant) 
  • CGS NOT FOR SALE. printed at the end of the generic name.
  • The SII logo is printed on the adhesive side of the label and at a unique angle
  • The entire label has been given a special honeycomb effect, which is visible only at a specific angle

Covaxin, things to check -:

  • Invisible UV DNA-like structure on the label which is only visible under UV light.
  • Micro text hidden in the label claims Dots, which is written as Covaxin
  • There is a green foil effect in X of Covaxin
