Environmental Activists Demand National Park Status for Jeypore Rain Forests in Assam

Environmental Activist group in Northeast India, 'Nature's Beckon' has demanded for declaration of the state's Jeypore Rainforest as a National Park.
While briefing media persons on Tuesday in Guwahati, 'Nature's Beckon' Director Soumyadeep Dutta criticized the previous Congress government of trying to destroy the state's precious natural resource by approving for coal mining in the Jeypore Rainforest but did not particularly mention any name.
Stating that the mining contract was given to Coal India Ltd, Dutta added that legal lease agreement for mining activities in the forest area has been approved till 2023 due to which other governments cannot cancel the mining in the Rainforest.
Notably, Jeypore Rainforest was given to Oil India Ltd. through a legal purchase procedure
