Oscar-nominated actor Ryan Gosling is reportedly in talks to star in an upcoming Star Wars film directed by Shawn Levy.

The project, which has been in development since 2022, is set to bring a fresh new direction to the Star Wars universe. This film could become the next major production under Lucasfilm, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.

Levy, known for his work on 'Deadpool' and 'The Adam Project', has been working on the movie for over two years, with Jonathan Tropper writing the script. Levy is also producing through his 21 Laps banner, alongside Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy.

While details about the film remain limited, it has been confirmed that it will be a standalone movie, separate from the core Skywalker Saga. This means the story may explore new characters and plotlines within the vast Star Wars universe.

Sources suggest that the film will introduce fresh narratives beyond the Skywalker family, though the exact timeline and plot are still under wraps. Fans have been speculating whether the film will focus on Jedi, Sith, or delve into other corners of the galaxy.

Gosling’s involvement in the project came as a late development, but it’s now set to accelerate the film’s production. Initially, Levy was in talks to direct a film centered around a boy band for Paramount, which would reunite him with actors Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

However, Gosling's sudden interest in the Star Wars universe has given the project a new sense of urgency. If negotiations are finalized, filming could begin as early as this fall, with the film expected to be the next major release under the Star Wars franchise.

Following the success of 'The Mandalorian' series, which is set for release in 2026, this film could be the next big Star Wars production. Gosling is also set to star in the space-themed film ‘Project Hail Mary’, directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, further solidifying his foray into the science fiction genre.
