James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ is the highest-grossing Hollywood film in India. It has grossed over Rs 450 crore, surpassing Marvel’s ‘Avengers Endgame’ box office collection of Rs 438 crore.
The sequel is the eighth biggest grosser in India across all languages.
‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ released in theatres on December 16 and it has been shattering box office records ever since. The film has crossed the $1.5 billion mark globally, overtaking Tom Cruise's 'Top Gun: Maverick'. Now, the latter film is no longer the highest-grossing movie of 2022.
The James Cameron directorial has maintained its No.1 spot for four weeks straight in US and Canadian theatres with $45 million in sales.
‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ released 13 years after the 2009 original film. The sequel follows Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) as they try and protect their kids from the return of the Skypeople and Colonel Quaritch (Steven Lang) who is hell-bent on revenge. The film also introduces a new water tribe of the Na'vi called the Metkayina.
