Happy birthday, Shruti Haasan: All you need to know about the actor

Shruti Haasan, who has charmed the audience with her acting skills, is the daughter of star couple Kamal Haasan and Sarika Thakur. She is also a playback singer who works predominantly in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi films.

Shruti started her career at the age of six as a playback vocalist in the 1992 Tamil film ‘Thevar Magan’, singing one version of ‘Potri Paadadi Penne’. She made her acting debut at the age of 14 with a special cameo role in her father's film 'Hey Ram'.

Shruti Haasan was set to make her actual acting debut in 2008 with a film opposite Madhavan, directed by Nishikant Kamat, but it was stalled before production began. She eventually signed up to feature in Soham Shah's Hindi film ‘Luck’ opposite Imran Khan that released in 2009. The same year, she made her debut as a music composer in the film 'Unnaipol Oruvan'.
The actor then went on to star in several Hindi, Telugu and Tamil films.

‘Anaganaga O Dheerudu’ (2011) marked her Telugu debut, while 7aum Arivu (2011) marked her Tamil debut. The films won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South. Shruti has established herself in the film industry with multiple commercially successful films.
At the peak of her acting career, the actor took a break to concentrate on her music. In an interview with cinemaexpress.com, Shruti said the world of music provided her with a creative license to express herself.

Following three years of hiatus, Shruti returned to acting in 2020 with the short film ‘Devi’, followed by ‘Yaara’ opposite Vidyut Jammwal, ‘Krack’ opposite Ravi Teja, Pawan Kalyan starrer ‘Vakeel Saab’, Netflix anthology ‘Pitta Kathalu’ in the segment directed by Nag Ashwin and Vijay Sethupathi's ‘Laabam’.

In June 2022, Shruti opened up about her struggle with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and Endometriosis, saying she is dealing with the hormonal disorder by eating right and giving her body ample rest.

Shruti Haasan will next appear alongside Prabhas in ‘Salaar’, which will mark her Kannada film debut. She also has ‘Veera Simha Reddy’, ‘Waltair Veerayya’ and Hollywood debut ‘The Eye’ in the pipeline.
