The makers of late actor Rishi Kapoor's film 'Sharmaji Namkeen' are gearing up for its digital premiere on Amazon Prime Video on March 31. Actor Ranbir Kapoor is leaving no stone unturned in promoting his father's last film. The legendary actor Rishi Kapoor passed away in April 2020, after being diagnosed with cancer. Even at the age of 67, Rishi gave his best to fit into the titular role of ‘Sharmaji Namkeen'. Here are a few reasons which make 'Sharmaji Namkeen' a must-watch.

The late Rishi Kapoor's last film

'Sharmaji Namkeen' is actor Rishi Kapoor's last film before he passed away. The film has been making headlines since its announcement. Rishi essays the role of B. G. Sharma, a 58-year-old widower struggling to cope with his life post-retirement. One fine day, he comes across a bunch of women who reignite his passion for cooking.

First time in Bollywood, two actors played one character

For the first time in Hindi cinema, two actors (Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal) will be seen essaying one character. After Rishi Kapoor’s untimely death, the makers had decided to fit Ranbir Kapoor in the role using prosthetics, which did not work out. According to the film’s producer Farhan Akhtar, he could not think of anyone else other than Paresh Rawal to play Sharmaji's role. He felt that Paresh Rawal was the person who could come across as someone who is tough from the outside, but soft and emotional from the inside. The scenes by both actors are mixed throughout the film, as revealed by the producer Ritesh Sidhwani.

A stellar cast

Besides Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal, the film also boasts of a stellar cast like Juhi Chawla, Suhail Nayyar, Taaruk Raina, Satish Kaushik, Sheeba Chaddha, and Isha Talwar. Juhi Chawla and Rishi Kapoor have worked together in the 1990s in films like ‘Bol Radha Bol’, ‘Eena Meena Deeka’, and ‘Daraar’. The light-hearted comedy that 'Sharmaji Namkeen' is, has every element which makes it a family entertainer. Directed by Hitesh Bhatia, the film promises to touch your heart with its simplicity.
