Film-maker Karan Johar released the trailer for Dharma Productions' upcoming film, 'Jugjugg Jeeyo,' directed by Raj Mehta in Mumbai, on May 22. He was joined by the film's main cast, which included Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, and Kiara Advani.
KJo, who was the co-producer and distributor of 'Baahubali: The Conclusion' in Hindi, gave his thoughts on the ongoing controversy concerning the divide between Bollywood and the South Indian film industry.
He said that the massive success of south films like 'RRR,' 'KGF: Chapter 2', and 'Pushpa' has 'raised the bar for Indian films' and taught the industry to aim higher, and that successful films in several languages only help Indian cinema as a whole.
On Hindi films not fairing well at the box office, Karan stated that 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' did solid business, 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2' has opened fantastically, and they hope that 'Jugjugg Jeeyo' joins the list as well.
Karan went on to say that they want cinema to continue to grow and become a global entertainment phenomenon.
Karan said that he doesn't feel south Indian films are not a competition to Hindi cinema. He had presented 'Baahubali' many years ago and believed in the power of cinema.
Karan said that he believes now is the time for all of India's film industries to come together. We don't care if we win an Oscar or go to any festival. As an Indian film industry, we wish to expand, and that has been proven numerous times.
