Wednesday night in Chennai became an unforgettable experience for fans as they witnessed an extraordinary collaboration between music maestro AR Rahman and British singer Ed Sheeran during the latter's Mathematics tour.
Visuals from the performance circulated online, showcasing Rahman joining Sheeran on stage. The pair interacted with the audience and performed a unique remix of Sheeran’s Shape of You and Rahman’s Urvasi.
After the performance, Ed Sheeran took to Instagram to express his gratitude, calling it an "honour" to share the stage with Rahman.
Ed Sheeran kicked off his + - = / x (Mathematics India tour) with an enchanting show in Pune on January 30. Wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with 'Pune,' Ed celebrated the city, which sparked cheers from the crowd.
A special moment of the evening occurred when Sheeran paused to thank the audience. He shared that he had performed in India twice before, both times in Mumbai, and was thrilled to bring his music to new cities on this tour.
He also noted that every visit to India feels like he’s exploring the country as a tourist, and he’s always grateful for the opportunity to perform for Indian fans.
The India leg of the tour began with singer-actor Aditi Saigal aka Dot., known for The Archies, opening for Sheeran.
The Pune concert saw the attendance of several English cricketers, including team captain Jos Buttler and all-rounder Liam Livingstone.
Jos Buttler, speaking with BookMyShow Live, expressed his excitement about touring in India, saying, "I have been coming to India for a long time. It is the best place to tour. Their love for the game is unmatched as compared to other places in the world. It is always a pleasure to come back, for IPL etc and to see the support of fans." He also shared his delight in being at Ed’s concert, adding, "Great that the stars aligned and we were in Pune at the same time."
Ed Sheeran’s Mathematics tour, organized by AEG Presents Asia and BookMyShow Live, will conclude on February 15 with a performance in Delhi-NCR.
