Eid al-Adha, also known as the festival of sacrifice, will be celebrated in India on July 21, 2021. It is disheartening that the Covid-19 pandemic and resulting lockdowns have forced people to become homebound and stay at a distance from their loved ones. But the restrictions should not dampen the festive spirit and zest. A festival allows us to unwind from work and take a much needed break from the usual home schedule.

Here are some ways in which you can celebrate Eid while practicing social distancing and respecting Covid 19 guidelines.

1. Virtual celebrations

Stranded away from your family and friends? Not to worry! Pick up that phone, and grab a plate of biryani, and get on a call with your loved ones. You can even get on a Zoom call and celebrate with all your family and friends. It can become your very own virtual Eid party.

2. Pray at home

The Indian Government and most leading Islamic organisations across the world have directed people to pray at home and not congregate at mosques. Your family and your own safety are very important, given the present circumstances. Organise your own jamaat with your loved ones and pray together. This will most definitely lift everyone’s spirits!

3. Dress up for the festival

Despite the celebrations being restricted to the indoors, put on your finest outfit for Eid. Organise your attire along with the accessories in order to look and feel your best. Carry on with the festival rituals and channel your inner artist by applying henna on your own hands and even on the hands of the people you live with.

4. Cook delicacies

Eid al-Adha is incomplete without the tasty and traditional delicacies. Prepare and enjoy mouth watering biryani and exquisite meat dishes at home. If you are staying with your family, help out by cooking delicious meals as with the number of delicacies being made on Eid day, the quantity of chores is bound to go up.

5. Charity

Charity plays a big part in Eid celebrations. Give rations, clothes, toys, food and more to those around you who are in need. You can also opt to do so by donating online to a charity.

While lockdown restrictions have been eased in certain parts of the country, do not get carried away. Use hand santisers, face masks and follow social distancing even if you are vaccinated.
