Two days after Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala unveiled an 18-feet tall statue of Devi Lal in Sirsa, his cousin Karan Chautala on Wednesday washed it with holy Ganga water for "purification".
Hitting out at Dushyant, Karan said that those who had unveiled the statue had "misused" the former deputy prime minister's name.
Calling Devi Lal a "messiah of farmers", Karan also slammed Dushyant for not supporting the farmers' protests against new farm law.
Karan is the son of Indian National Lok Dal senior leader Abhay Singh Chautala. Dushyant is the son of Abhay's brother Ajay Chautala. They are both grandsons of INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala and great grandsons of former Dy PM Devi Lal.
Dushyant Chautala floated the Jannayak Janata Party in 2018 when the INLD split following a feud within the Chautala family, and joined the BJP govt.
