Da Vinci's hair locks go on display

Leonardo Da Vinci's tuft of hair went on display on Thursday. It was showcased at an exhibition called 'Leonardo Vive' spanning two new museums in the artist's birthplace of Vinci in Tuscany. Experts are hoping to resolve the mystery around the lock of hair believed to be that of the Renaissance artist, and maybe even sequence his DNA. The lock of hair along with a ring were recovered during the 1863 searches for Leonardo's tomb. The documents displayed at the museums celebrating the artist indicate that the official commissioned to search for the tomb kept two relics for himself: a lock of the master's hair and a bronze ring found on Da Vinci's finger. Another important piece of art that went on display at the exhibition was "The Naked Gioconda", a portrait of a semi-nude woman which has now been attributed to Da Vinci's studio.
