Why has the new Mumbai-Nagpur expressway suddenly become the talk of the town? In today’ age, speed is everything. The Samruddhi expressway has been designed with keen precision to ensure a faster, more efficient journey of only 8 hours. Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, the organisation responsible for the execution of this project, has also considered necessary provisions in the centre, to allow for potential expansion. The state of the art design also includes 63 flyovers, 25 interchanges, more than 5 tunnels, and approximately 400 vehicular and 300 pedestrian underpasses at key locations. These underpasses will connect the expressway to service roads as well. A utility corridor, which carries gas pipelines, electricity lines and optical fibre cables, is being constructed parallel to the expressway.
