UP: 20-year-old thrashed, given electric shocks by police over suspicion of cattle theft

A 20-year-old man was brutalised and given electric shocks by the police in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun after being arrested on suspicion of cattle theft.

The youth, Rehan, has sustained injuries in his private parts and is unable to walk or speak, according to media reports quoting his sister-in-law.

Rehan was detained by the police on May 2 while he was on his way home after work. The police claimed that he was allegedly aiding a group of cattle smugglers. His family has allegedly that he was in custody for several hours and they had to pay a bribe of ₹5,000 for his release

An FIR has been filed against 7 people and the 5 policemen named in it have been suspended.

Rehan had to be admitted to the hospital on Friday after his condition deteriorated. His family told reporters that he has been suffering from seizures every day.
