Uber driver allegedly tries to hit passengers with car after fight over online payment, arrested in Assam

In a shocking incident, an Uber driver in Assam allegedly tried to drive over his passengers after a dispute over the payment method. Journalists Nikita Jain and Mohd Abuzar Choudhary narrated the incident on Twitter on May 28.

Mohd Abuzar claimed that he was assaulted with an iron rod by the driver. When the journalists threatened to file a police complaint, the driver allegedly tried to run them over with his car.

The dispute arose over the payment method for a ride to Kamakhya in Guwahati.

The complainants said that they had booked a ride with online payment, but after the ride started, the driver wanted the mode changed to cash. They also accused the driver of calling them "Bangladeshi".

Police took note of the incident with Guwahati commissioner himself tweeting that action had been initiated. Nikita Jain subsequently tweeted that the driver had been caught by police. She thanked Assam police for the swift action.
