Jharkhand: family accuses policemen of trampling 4-day-old baby to death

A four-day-old baby was allegedly trampled to death by policemen in Jharkhand's Giridih district, prompting Chief Minister Hemant Soren to order an investigation.

The incident took place when the police had gone to a house in search of an accused, who is also the grandfather of the child. On seeing the police, all family members reportedly fled leaving the newborn alone in the house.

The mother of the infant said that while the policemen were searching the house, her four-day-old child was sleeping inside. She said she found her child dead after returning home once the police had left. 

The family has alleges that the child was trampled to death by the policemen.

The police say they sent a baby's body for postmortem and action will be taken based on the report.
