During a hearing on gangrape victim Bilkis Bano's petition, the Supreme Court pulled up the convicts and their lawyers.

The top court on May 2, 2023 said that it was "more than obvious" that the convicts' team did not want the hearing to be conducted by the 2-judge bench.

The court deferred to May 9 the hearing on petitions challenging the remission and release of 11 convicts who gangraped Bilkis Bano and murdered her family members during the 2002 Gujarat riots.
