The World Health Organization has blamed the more contagious mutant variants and unrestricted religious and political gatherings for the massive surge in coronavirus infections in India.
India now accounts for 95% of cases and 93% of deaths in the South-East Asia region, and 50% of global cases and deaths, according to the WHO’s epidemiological update released on Wednesday.
Massive rallies and roadshows were held by political parties during elections in five states through April and govt allowed mammoth Kumbh at Haridwar to go on which was attended by lakhs of devotees and turned out to be a super-spreader event.
