In a major jump in Covid cases, India recorded 7,830 new infections in 24 hours, as per data released by the government on the morning of 12 April 2023.
This is the highest single-day rise in cases in 223 days, or over 7 months, as per news agency PTI.
A day earlier, the daily case tally stood at 5,676.
Meanwhile, at least 16 deaths were reported in a day from Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh. Of these, 5 deaths were reconciled by Kerala.
The number of active cases has risen to 40,215.
