Over 40 Covid Delta Plus cases in India, govt says it's a variant of concern

Over 40 cases of the Covid Delta Plus variant have been reported in the country, the government said on Wednesday. The govt has also clarified that it remains a "Variant of Concern".

Most of the case of the Delta Plus variant of the novel coronavirus are from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

The government has advised these states to strengthen surveillance and ramp up public health measures

The new strain, a mutation of the Delta strain first detected in India, is considered to be the most dangerous variant of Covid-19.

There are 21 cases in Maharashtra, six in Madhya Pradesh, three in Kerala, three in Tamil Nadu, two in Karnataka and one each in Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Jammu, report said quoting govt sources.
