West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting him to waive all forms of taxes and customs duty on equipment and drugs being used to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

She urged the centre to exempt donations in the form of oxygen concentrators and cylinders, cryogenic storage tanks and COVID-19 medicines from GST and customs duty, so as to "encourage private aid". the Chief Minister stressed these donations would 'supplement the efforts of the state government in meeting the huge gap in demand and supply" of medical resources.
