Indian Covid vaccine Covaxin is overall 77.8% effective "against symptomatic Covid-19", vaccine maker Bharat Biotech said on Saturday.
The company has cited the data from the third phase of clinical trials. The data, however, is yet to be peer-reviewed.
Bharat Biotech further stated that the vaccine offers "65.2% protection against" the new Delta variant, which is said to be highly infectious.
Phase 3 clinical trials of Covaxin were conducted on 130 symptomatic Covid cases ranging from 18-98 years of age at 25 sites across India.
Bharat Biotech is in discussions with WHO to obtain an emergency use listing for Covaxin.
