A Delhi court on Thursday ordered the release of the three student activists who were languishing in jail for 2 days even after being granted bail by the Delhi High Court on Tuesday.
The three -- JNU scholars Devangana Kalita and Natasha Narwal, and Jamia studemt Asif Iqbal -- had spent 36 hours in jail even after the bail order as Delhi Police sought time to verify their permanent addressed before their release.
The activist moved Delhi High Court on Thursday morning seeking direction for their release. The HC asked the Trial Court to decide on the matter expeditiously after which the release order came.
The Trial Court had on Wednesday deferred the release order after Delhi Police's plea.
Kalita, Narwal and Tanha were arrested by Delhi Police on charges of conspiracy in Delhi riots. The High Court in its bail order had termed the charges against them “stretched” and “hyperbole”.
