Chennai extends Covid-19 lockdown till July 5 with several relaxations

The Tamil Nadu government has extended the coronavirus lockdown in capital Chennai and surrounding districts till 6pm on July 5 with several relaxations on the curbs.

Tamil Nadu has geographically classified the 38 districts in the state into 3 categories based on the virus caseload. The 4 districts in Category 3- Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpet has opened doors to all private establishments with 100% workforce. Places of worship will be open but any festival or consecration ceremony won’t be allowed.

Textile and jewellery shops can function sans air-conditioning between 9 am and 7pm with 50% customers. Similarly shopping malls are open between 9 am and 7 pm. In-house dining is still prohibited, restaurants can offer take away service.

Theatres remain closed while sports academies and outdoor events are allowed between 6am and 9pm without audience.
