The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team has advised Facebook users to update their Facebook privacy settings, after a recent ‘data scraping’ incident suffered by the website may have affected 61 lakh Indians.
Over 450 million unique Facebook profiles were affected across the globe, as malicious actors used automated software to collate publicly-available information on Facebook profiles, like names, cities of residence, and occupations, which is now freely available on the web.
While Facebook has clarified that no financial or private data was leaked, the information could still be used to launch further phishing attacks. CERT-In has advised users to change their settings and make most information only available to friends.
