The Union Health Ministry has urged states and union territories to make black fungus or mucormycosis a notifiable disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, stating that the infection is leading to prolonged morbidity and mortality amongst Covid-19 patients.

The directive essentially means that all cases of black fungus will have to reported to the health ministry

The fungal infection can lead to blackening or discolouration over the nose, blurred or double vision, chest pain, breathing difficulties and coughing blood,  especially in patients who are on steroid therapy and have uncontrolled sugar levels.
