US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has warned that the war on coronavirus has changed as the Delta variant is far more contagious and can even be passed on by vaccinated people. CDC in an internal document has reportedly stated that the Delta strain may cause more serious disease than earlier coronavirus strains.

Delta, now in at least 132 countries and already the dominant form of the disease in the United States, is more transmissible than the common cold, the 1918 Spanish flu, smallpox, Ebola, MERS and SARS, according to the document

The CDC's internal document, entitled "Improving communications around vaccine breakthrough and vaccine effectiveness", said the variant required a new approach in spreading awareness and imposing protocols as as unvaccinated people were more than 10 times more likely than those who are vaccinated to become seriously ill or die.

CNBC reports that CDC has said 5,914 fully vaccinated people have been hospitalized or have died with Covid infections as of July 19, the most recent data available.
