Amid reports of an additional 10% tax on diesel vehicles, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari clarified that there is no such proposal that's currently being considered by the government.

Posting on social media platform X, Gadkari emphasized the immediate need to clarify media reports suggesting an additional 10% GST on diesel vehicle sales.

The clarification comes after Gadkari's comments at the 63rd Annual SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) convention, where he expressed concerns about the environmental impact of diesel-powered vehicles and said,

"I am going to handover a letter to the Finance Minister this evening stating that an additional 10% GST be put on diesel-powered vehicles,"

He also said, "Say goodbye to diesel... Please stop making them, otherwise, we will just increase the tax so much that it would become difficult to sell diesel cars"

However, the minister has now clarified that there is no such proposal at the moment.
