Tamil Nadu to ban online gambling amid this reason

After a spate of suicide due to the losses incurred due to online gambling games have increased, Tamil Nadu government has approved an ordinance banning online gaming. 

The Madras High Court had struck down the state's ban on online games like rummy and poker with stakes, and the Tamil Nadu government had then appealed to the Supreme Court.

The state government had told the apex court stated that teenagers and youths were losing their entire earnings and savings by indulging in online games.

Tamil Nadu government enacted an ordinance against online rummy for the second time. Earlier, AIADMK government imposed a ban in 2021 but the law was struck down by Madras HC. 

The committee also recommended that the state government ban advertisements that encourage people to play such online games.
