Rs 1300 crores were sent out erroneously to 100 HDFC Bank customers turning them into sudden crorepatis all due to a technical glitch.

The country’s largest private lender faced yet another tech turmoil as a glitch ended up depositing RS 13 crore each in 100 bank accounts attached to the bank’s T Nagar branch over the weekend.

However HDFC Bank caught the error in minutes and account holders who were shocked to see their balances were unable to access them. Reports indicate the lender reversed the error within the next few hours but customers were left stranded as they could not access their accounts even for urgent use.

According to the private lender, the issue arose due to the introduction of a software patch as part of maintenance during the early hours on May 29. Further, the bank is investigating if the excess money deposited in the accounts has been withdrawn.
