The Indian bowlers stole the show on Sunday evening as the Men in Blue registered a convincing 38 run win in the first T20i in Colombo.

Sri Lanka won the toss as they sent India to bat first. The Indian batting line up however could not rise to the occasion as they posted a below-par target of 165 runs. While debutant Prithvi Shaw got out for a golden duck, it was skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Surya Kumar Yadav who saved the day for their side with 36 off 46 and 50 off 34, respectively.

In reply, the host could only score 126 runs in 18 overs as subsequent loss of wickets hit the team hard. Deepak Chahar took 2 wickets, the Pandya brothers together scalped 3 and in his first T20I match, Varun Chakravarthy too got one wicket. But it was Bhuvneshwar Kumar who put his best foot forward and went on to take 4 wickets, as he handed Team India a 1-0 lead in the 3-match T20I series.
