Actor Amitabh Bachchan has terminated his contract with a prominent pan masala brand, adding that he wasn't aware that it falls under surrogate advertising.  According to a blog post, addressed by 'the office of Amitabh Bachchan' on Sunday, Big B has also returned the money received for the promotion.

Recently, the 79-year-old actor faced a backlash for featuring in the pan masala ad, with many fans of the veteran actor expressing displeasure over his decision.

His move comes after the National Organization for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) requested the veteran actor to withdraw from promoting pan masala, and support the anti-tobacco movement in the country. They said the move could help stop youngsters from getting addicted to tobacco.
