Amid heightened security, J&K policeman shot dead in Srinagar

Despite heightened security in Jammu and Kashmir owing to the recent target killings, suspected militants struck again in the capital city Srinagar, killing a policeman. 

Reports said 29-year-old policeman Tauseef Ahmad was fired upon by the unidentified gunmen in SD Colony area of Batamaloo in Srinagar from a close range. 

Ahmad was immediately rushed to nearby SMHS hospital where doctors declared him dead. He had served with anti-insurgency Special Operation Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. 

Soon after the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and conducted searches but the militants managed to flee.

Since past two months Kashmir has seen an escalation in violence with unarmed civilians being targeted by the terror groups.
