Fearing the Delta Plus strain could become more severe in case of third Covid wave, several Maharashtra districts decided to roll back some relaxations and impose further curbs beginning Monday. This comes amid reports that the new variant is more transmissible.

The state on Sunday reported 9,974 Covid-19 cases, including 739 in Mumbai.

Mumbai will continue to follow the same restrictions as before despite its low positivity and bed occupancy rate, so as to avoid any spurt in cases.

State surveillance officer Dr Pradeep Awate described the rolling back of relaxations as a preventive step.
