A new report by Economic Times claims that the Indian government is planning to test all phones sold in India for data security and snooping concerns.

Government agencies, along with the IT Ministry, are reportedly looking into framing a set of guidelines that is aimed at Chinese manufacturers.

The government may test the source code or follow up with component manufacturers of a phone, or look closely at pre-installed apps and where they’re sending data.

Last year, the government had banned over 200 Chinese apps over data security concerns, among which were some apps that came pre-installed with Xiaomi phones.
