Afghanistan withdraws ambassador, diplomats from Islamabad

Afghanistan has withdrawn its ambassador and diplomats from Islamabad, following the kidnapping of the ambassador Najibullah Alikhil’s daughter, the Afghan foreign ministry said on Sunday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement said the ambassador and senior diplomats have been recalled to Kabul until complete elimination of the security threats including the arrest and punishment of the perpetrators.

Vice President Amrullah Saleh tweeted, saying, the abduction of the Afghan ambassador's daughter & her subsequent torture has wounded the psyche of the nation.

The daughter of Afghanistan’s ambassador to Pakistan, 26-year-old Silsila Alikhil, was briefly kidnapped by unknown assailants who left her with injuries and rope marks.

The Pakistan authorities have said they are investigating the matter.
