Afghanistan's limited-overs series vs Pakistan which was scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka in the 1st week of September has been postponed indefinitely. The decision comes in light of the recent developments in Afghanistan where the Taliban took over the reins of the country. The Pakistani cricket board has cited the difficulties in travelling from Afghanistan due to the political unrest, an increase in Covid-19 cases in Sri Lanka and the players' mental health issues as the 3 big reasons for the postponement.

The original plan for the Afghanistan team was to travel to Pakistan by road and then fly to Dubai and reach Sri Lanka but a 10-day lockdown in the Emerald Isles due to Covid-19 has derailed the plans.

After the takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban, Azizullah Fazli was appointed as the new chairman of the Afghan cricket board. Fazli in the past has been a former cricketer himself and was associated with national cricket for close to two decades.
