The Police Department at Hatsingimari in South Salmara-Mankachar District detained All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) district president Shafiqul Islam, district secretary Ataur Rasul and 40 other members of the organization for holding protest and burning down effigy of State Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office on Friday. It is to be noted that the State Government has recently handed over the mid-day meal scheme to centralized kitchens run by NGOs, following which massive protests have been staged by various organizations in the state since past few weeks.
