Dressed in hard hats and protective suits, the choir at the Notre Dame Cathedral sang for the first time since last year's fire for a special concert on the eve of Christmas.
20 singers, accompanied with a violinist, an organ and a soprano soloist performed in the darkened church, while following social distancing.
The diocese called it a “highly symbolic concert marked with emotion and hope,” and a celebration of a “musical heritage that dates to the Middle Ages.”
The concert, without an audience, was recorded earlier this month but was broadcast on Thursday night. The public is not allowed to see the insides of the cathedral until 2024 at least.
